High Water

Newtyle BeatA week of pretty extreme weather which saw the Tay with some really high water to contend with. The colder weather forecast for the week ahead I hope will allow some good fishing to be had and some rods bent. I am hearing of the odd fresh fish caught in amongst what seems to be still many kelts around. Last week was another busy week in the office as more rivers uploaded their 2014 availability. Great to see Gordon Castle Estate adding their rods for the Spey, with a fantastic selection of fishing available along eight miles of Gordon Castle & Brae Water beats during the next few months – you are always in with a chance of some good sport being further down the system and these beat’s are definitely worth a cast for a spring fish.

Largest fish caught on the Tay January 2014 The week ahead will see us leave January and start to get excited about the Tweed and Dee opening this Saturday. It will be interesting to see how both rivers settle down in the week ahead with a good chance of fresh run spring fish being caught on opening day. If you are lucky enough to be out on Saturday then please do send us in your photo’s which we will feature on our sites to info@fishpal.com

Ken ReidThe Dee District Salmon Fishery Board are once again holding an opening day celebration at Potarch Bridge and is always a well run affair with. A man who needs no introduction on the Dee and who is stepping down from his role as Fisheries Development Officer will be in attendance and I am sure will be congratulated by many for the tremendous work he has done to help develop fishing on the Dee. I am referring of course to Ken Reid who’s last day in post is this Friday. Can I take this opportunity to say a huge thank you from all of us here at FishPal to Ken for all the great work he has done over the years. A passionate fisherman and a true ambassador for the Dee. Look forward to seeing you on the river bank soon Ken!

Lots of people to visit this week on rivers across the country and I very much look forward to discussing how we can help promote your beat in the year ahead.

Tight lines for all those lucky enough to be having a cast this week and don’t forget those photos!
